My first job from leaving school was to work in a camera shop and train as a wedding photographer, My interest in radio began in the mid-70s when I volunteered at a Hospital Radio station in Blackburn, 7 years later a new commercial station was launched serving Lancashire and surrounding area, and I successfully applied for a job there as a Technical Operator.
Over the next 30 years I slowly climbed the ladder to became a producer, mainly for phone-ins, and sports output.
I retired in 2015 thinking radio was now behind me, but it didn’t take long before I was contacted by a community station, knowing that I played in a brass band, would ask me if I could do a weekly show. I didn’t have enough music for this, but I did have 100s of Classical DVDs.
The rest, as they say, is history.
